I've been going out to eastern Long Island since I was a kid. The Hamptons wasn't as high end touristy back then, but it totally is now. But I understand why it's so popular as a haven for the rich - it has a pretty amazing old beach town vibes.Montauk Lighthouse. I went down to the beach here with some buckets specifically to get sand for the permeability lab - finding course sand is not an easy task and this is my spot where I get it. Much of the sand/pebbles I used at Chatham HS were from this exact spot. I went down to get more fsand or my current job, hoping to get the teachers in my dept to do this lab.[bubble gum cigarettes] How else are my kids gonna learn that smoking is cool? My #1 goal as a teacher was to get kids to have grit and determination. My failure in that realm (and the push-back and frustration it caused for me) was always such a issue for me. But my son Danny definitely has it and that's what ultimately matters to me. Watching him try a trick over and over (and over) and then finally landing it - man, so fulfilling as a parent. Like ollie-ing down a 3-stair. Drone and Danny and the Montauk bowl.
Danny’s growing at a series rate these days, so when we went to order new school shoes for him, we needed to know his shoe size. It brought me great pleasure to run to the basement and pull out my Brannock Device. Size 8.5 ordered.
I've been thinking about this type of footage for a while, it came out really good. The music is usually the hard part - drone footage or time lapse video needs some sounds or it comes off really flat. great overnight trip to Vermont. [mid-July] Lunch Lake. Ok, that's not its official name but when the kids where young we would always stop here to eat lunch on our way up to Stowe. So it'll forever be Lunch Lake to us. Warren Skatepark. Quirky but fun. I stop at Warren Falls every chance I get. Amazing swimmming hole. This spot on the Mad River is super chill. Honey I shrunk the Stacey! (it's a movie reference) Middlebury VT is definitely cool. And Middlebury College is there (hint, hint) Screw the Keurig machine, every Airbnb needs a hot tub. But of course in my typical fashion I ended up turning off the jets. Then the blue lights. So we were sitting there in really warm water in the dark in Vermont. It's the way to go. back of some garage in Brandon VT I go to Dorset Quarry every chance I get too.
My friend Greg is a concert promoter and he owns a great piece of property in the Catskills. So he has a small music festival every year where everyone camps and all these bands play - it's awesome. Our family doesn't do store bought cards - we always make our own. A great tradition that I can't recommend enough. I very much look forward to the cards I receive, they're *way* better than any gift. In the rush to prepare all the camping gear Mrs. G didn't have time to make a card., thinking she could do it when we got home. When she learned I made her a card and brought it with me, she stole away while I was playing frisbee with the guitarist from Glass Pony, got a paper plate from the food guy and made this card on the spot. Love it. The running joke is that it rains during this event every year. And from my experience attneding, that's totally true. So of course it rained for a little bit Saturday afternoon. Pretty hard actually. Our annual July 4th party has grown into quite a thing. This was the 20th year and everyone really looks forward to it every year. I started an obstacle course when the kids were young and that has become quite event as it gets more elaborate every year. I have to set my alarm for 5am to get the pulled pork going on the smoker by 6am, but it's worth it Video of the little kids obstacle course. Super cute. |
